Albert II of Belgium (born 6 June 1934) reigned as the King of the Belgians from 1993 until his abdication in 2013. King Albert II is the son of King Leopold III and Queen Astrid, born princess of Sweden. He is the younger brother of Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg and King Baudouin, whom he succeeded upon Baudouins death in 1993. Justus Lipsius (18 October 1547 – 23 March 1606) was a Flemish philologist, philosopher and humanist. Auguste Piccard (28 January 1884 – 24 March 1962) was a Swiss physicist, inventor and explorer, known for his record-breaking helium-filled balloon flights, with which he studied Earths upper atmosphere and cosmic rays, and for his invention of the first bathyscaphe, FNRS-2, with which he made a number of unmanned dives in 1948 to explore the oceans depths. Piccard also was the first to witness views of earth from 10 miles up. It was stated in a 1931 Popular Science magazine that “It seemed a flat disk with upturned edge”.
